To encourage the young to appreciate and perfect themselves in the field of
Hindustani Classical Music, and to bring out the best amongst the competitors,
an open competition in Hindustani Classical Music was started by Shree Baba
Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha (Regd.) in the year 1979. Since then it is
organized every year.
2009 onwards, the Music competition for the Junior and Senior Categories will be
held separately.
For Junior Category the competition will be held in the month of
February, a day
prior to Vasant Utsav.
For Senior Category, the competition will be held in the month of
December, and
will start a day prior to the annual Sangeet Sammelan.
General Rules for the Music Competition:
There are Four Categories for the competition namely:
Vocal – Shastriya Sangeet – Gaayan
Vocal – Gaayan – Thumri, Dadra, Tappa
Instrumental (Non-Percussion – Swar Vadya) and
Instrumental (Percussion – Taal Vadya),
There are Two Age Groups namely:
Juniors (Yuva Varg) (upto the age of 16 years) and
Seniors (VarishthYuva Varg (From 16+ to 25 years)
There are Three Prizes in each category namely: First, Second and Third.
To & fro Second class train fare will be given to the First position Winners
(Male). In case of female winners, to & fro second class train will also be
given for one escort (in case accompanying the winner).
In addition, the winners from the Senior Age Group (Varishth Yuva Varg) will be
initiated as ‘Performing Artists’ during the Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet
Sammelan next year.
Annual Music Competition 2009 – A Note for the Participants
The Music Competition 2009 will be held for Senior Category only, on December
23, 24, 25 & 26,2009. The Competition will start at 11.00 A.M. on all the days
and will continue till late in the evening.

Mandir in Devi Talab Complex. Arrangement have been made to provide Beddings on
Hire @ Rs.50/- per day.

Music Competition for the Junior Category will be held on February 20, 2010,
whereas
for the Senior Category, it will be held on December 22, 23, 24,& 25, 2010.
The Competition will start at 11.00 A.M. on all the days and will continue till
late evening.

Attention – Participants:
Special Recognition will be given to Dhrupad Gayan
All accompanying instruments – Harmonium, Sarangi, Violin, Swar Mandal etc. will
be given same weightage and will be taken at par for the purpose of counting
merit.
The Judges at their discretion, may ask the competitor to perform any part of
Raag/lay etc. selected by the candidate and may ask the competitor to wind up
his/her performance any time in between the performance time.

3. Time Allowed:
Junior age group (Yuva
Varg) – 6 to 8 minutes
Senior age group (Varishth Yuva Varg) – 8 to 10 minutes.
This time duration includes the time taken by the competitor for the tuning of
instruments etc.
A warning bell will be sounded to indicate that only 2 minutes are remaining
and the competitor should wind up the performance within the next 2 minutes.
The Final bell will be sounded at end of allotted time to tell the competitor
to stop the performance.
Negative marks will be
given if the competitor fails to complete performance by the final bell.

4. Prizes, Awards & Recognitions:
All the contestants shall
receive "Certificate of Participation" from Shree Baba Harivallabh
Sangeet Mahasabha.
The winners securing First,
Second and Third position shall be awarded Cash prize, Medal / Memento and
Merit Certificate.
The winners from the Senior age group (Varishth
Yuva Varg) shall be initiated as ‘Performing Artists’ during the next year’s
‘Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan’ and shall be given an opportunity to
perform during at the ‘Sangeet Sammelan’.
The committee may reduce
the number of prizes in a particular category/age group if the number of
contestants falls short of Six ( 6 ) in that particular category/age group.
The judges may, in
exceptional cases, in consultation with the Music Competition Committee, award
Special prize to a competitor whose performance merits special consideration.

5. Accompanists with the competitor:
A maximum of Two ( 2 )
Accompanists will be allowed to accompany the competitor. However, a competitor
in Vocal category, in addition to the two accompanists, will be allowed to play
Tanpura or Swarmandal himself/herself.

Harmonium, Tanpura) can be provided on a request made at the time of submitting
the application.

6. Application for
competition:
The participants shall seek
entry to the competition by submitting an application in the prescribed format,
available from the office of General Secretary of the Mahasabha at the under
noted address and also at the Site Office of the Mahasabha at Devi Talab Mandir
(only on the day prior to the commencement of the music competition). A sample
Format of the application is appended herewith. The application sent by
post/courier will be accepted at the following address:

7. Last Date for Submission of
Application Form:
The last date of receipt of Application (along
with Entry fee of Rs.150/- for Junior Category and Rs. 200/- for Senior
Category, Proof of age & two recent passport size Photographs – one affixed on
the application form and the other enclosed with it) sent by post/courier will
be Two ( 2 ) days prior to the commencement date for the competition.
The Applications will also
be accepted at the ‘Harivallabh Site office’ at Devi Talab Mandir, Jalandhar,
One ( 1 ) day prior to the commencement date for the competition, from 10 A.M to 5 P.M.
Entries to the competition
will close at
5.00 P.M. ONE day prior to the commencement date for the
competition and final list of competitors drawn immediately thereafter.

8. Late Entries:
Competitors who wish to
submit their applications after the deadline may be allowed to present their
applications beyond 5.00 P.M. (ONE day prior to the commencement
date for the competition) with a late fee of Rs.100/- per day.
Supplementary lists of such
contestants will be prepared and appended to the main lists.
However No late entry will
be entertained for a particular category/age group after the judgment in that
particular category/age group has been completed.

9. Entry
Fee:
Entry fee for the competition is 150/-
for Junior Category and Rs. 200/- for Senior Category.
The competitors who send
their application by post/courier should send their entry fee through a bank
draft drawn in favour of Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha, payable at
Jalandhar, Punjab.
Those submitting their
application forms by hand at the Harivallabh Site Office at Devi Talab,
Jalandhar, can pay the Entry Fee in the form of a bank draft drawn in favour of
Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha payable at Jalandhar or in Cash at the
site office and obtain a receipt for the same.

10. Exemption from Entry Fee/ Late Fee:
No Entry Fee/ Late Fee will
be charged from the competitors who are staying in an orphanage/destitute home,
provided they produce a written certification for the same from the head of
that institution.

11. Proof of Age:
The participants shall
attach documentary proof of his/her age with the application. Legible photocopy
of a document will be accepted. However, in case of dispute the contestant
should be able to produce the original document.

12. Objections:
Objections of any kind during the conduct of
Music Competition will be entertained after receipt of Rupees Five Hundred along
with a written complaint.
Objections regarding
eligibility of a competitor or of any other nature will be entertained by the
committee before and during the competition and decided immediately. Ruling of
the Committee shall be final.

13. Lists Of Competitors:
List of competitors whose
application forms are received within the deadlines will be prepared and
displayed in the office of the Mahasabha at 6.00 P.M. a day prior to the commencement of
the competition. Supplementary Lists of those who submit their applications
with late fee will be displayed from time to time and shall be appended with
the main list.

14. Order of Participation:
Draw of lots will take
place at 6.00 P.M a day prior to the commencement of the competition to
determine the order of participation in each category & age group.
A list of order of
participation will also be displayed at the venue of the competition
immediately thereafter.
Competitors, whose entries
are received with late fee, will be entertained at numbers that come after the
completion of that particular category/age group from the main list.

15. Judges:
There shall be a panel of three judges (at all
levels of competition) for the conduct of competition whose judgment will be
final. The committee will decide norms of judgment.
Each judge will hand over the judgment at the completion of performance by a
competitor for tabulation by the Music Competition Committee.

17. Discipline:
Every competitor is
required to be present in the competition hall when his/her name is announced
for presenting item. In case the competitor fails to reach the stage even after
three calls, he/she will stand disqualified from the competition.
The participants will
observe strict discipline and any of them found indulging in indiscipline of
any nature (such as approaching the committee or judges, disrespect towards
committee members, judges, use of foul/derogatory language etc.) are liable for
disqualification from the competition.

18. Declaration of Results/
Presentation of Awards:
The result of the competition will
be declared immediately after the competition of a particular category is over.
Awards will be presented to the
winner of First, Second and Third positions (& Special Prizes, if any) on
the first day of Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan (around 8.00 P.M.)

19. Participation by First Prize
Winners:
Competitors who were declared as
First Prize winners in a particular category & a particular age group,
during the earlier held “Harivallabh Sangeet Pratiyogita” also referred to as
‘Music Competition’ will not be allowed to compete in the same category &
age group again.
